BackCountry Fly Fishing Expeditions

Backcountry Fishing

Most fly-fishers want three things: beautiful scenery, beautiful fish, and not a whole lot of other fly-fishers there enjoying the beautiful scenery and the beautiful fish! To realize this desire, your fly-fishing guide at White Mountain Nature Adventures takes you to pristine remote mountain ponds in the White Mountain National Forest that are not so easily accessed as to invite just any angler.

For the most part, we practice catch and release fishing so that we may preserve the trout population; however, we also encourage that you keep one or two so that at night, as you sit around the campfire telling stories, your guide can create a piscatorial feast by rubbing the fish with herbs and blackening them over an open flame so that they are spicy and crispy on the outside, and moist and tender on the inside. When possible, we serve them with wild mushrooms found on the trail.

Young Man Caught Fish

To experience a unique outing such as this, fly-fishers will need to bring their waders, float tube and fins, as well as a tent, sleeping bag and mattress pad.

Our two-day outings are ideal for couples or parent/child expeditions. Two-day trips involve one night of camping, and this is often with the added luxury of a WMNF shelter. For the more determined angler, our four-day excursions take you to the more remote ponds, where, in addition to stocked and “almost native” fish, the possibility of catching truly native trout exists. The four-day trips involve three nights of camping [often with the luxury of a WMNF shelter], and offer the ultimate in a backcountry fly-fishing experience.
