Children's Fishing Programs

Children love to fish. The greatest obstacle to a successful outing is this: you’re sitting on the edge of a pond, casting and waiting, casting and waiting… and you’re ten years old. No matter how delightful your surroundings are, you can get bored. At White Mountain Nature Adventures, we have the perfect solution to this: fish the river. The water is moving, the fishers are perched on a rock with the rushing stream singing in their ears, and if the fish aren’t biting, we simply move up or downstream to another spot.

Kids Camp

The mountain rivers are known for their “pocket water,” that is, they have little “pockets” behind a rock or at the bottom of a set of rapids, which one can cast to with little difficulty. There is no need for a long cast. The fish are never just out of reach for youngsters: they’re right there, hiding in the seam of the current.

We use time tested flies that have fooled trout for decades, yet, we put them on a spinning rod with a sinker so that even the youngest angler can cast, as there is no need to learn the intricacies of a fly cast.

Mad River View

Before each trip we provide casting instructions as well as a review of the safety precautions. Outings are kept short, all taking place within a short drive from Waterville Valley Recreation Department, from which we depart, and they are affordable, so that the whole family can enjoy some time on the water. Fishers are encouraged to wear sneakers or water shoes and shorts.
