Full-Day Hikes

A small group of hikers are tramping along a delightfully serpentine stretch of trail. The guide notices that, despite the moderate pace, there are a few hikers who are breathing, a bit red in the face; so, he stops, bends down to examine a beautiful purple and white wildflower, and explains how the Painted Trillium wildflower blooms in the early spring, before the canopy of leaves return to the trees and casts the forest floor into shade. Moments later, they are tramping again, refreshed and pleased, their eyes now wandering curiously across the woodland floor as they ascend. |

Whether it’s because the trail has become more steep at a given point in the hike, or just merely the fact that the hike leader’s enthusiasm for nature’s bounty of wildflowers, lichens, mosses and mushrooms has provoked a quick stop and stoop for inspection, the trampers are on more than just a hike: they are on a nature adventure. |

While many hikers flock to the 4,000 foot peaks with a desire to climb them as fast as possible, catch the view, and then race back home, at White Mountain Nature Adventures we believe that the reason we hike is not just to take in the view at the top, but to also to see the magnificent sights along the way. Most of our hikes take you to the lesser-known 2,000 and 3,000-foot peaks without the heavy tourist traffic; and yet, there is a preponderance of spectacular views, waterfalls, and beautiful woodland copses to appreciate.
|

At the right time of year, and with a little luck, hikers will encounter a patch of wild mushrooms that are known to be safe and delicious, and when the summit is reached and the hikers are relaxing while taking in the view, our leader has fired up his cook stove and is quickly preparing delicious sautéed wild mushrooms on French bread to augment their bag lunch.
This is what a typical full-day hiking excursion with White Mountain Nature Adventures is like. Each hike is a journey, not simply a destination, and in this way, we offer hikers a complete mountain experience.
